With so many children at the birthday party I attended on Sunday afternoon I thought it was the perfect opportunity to take one of those photos (you’ve probably seen) of kids being swung around – the background all blurred in an arc. But I don’t remember when last I saw one of those photos, so I couldn’t actually remember what it looked like and I also couldn’t figure out how to make it work.
And so I made a plan: to swing the child by one foot while taking the photo using the other hand. With that plan only moderately successful I then hoisted a friend on my shoulders to do the shooting, while I swung the kids around using both hands. That was even less successful. How we didn’t crash to the ground in a heap of dizziness I don’t know. (You try twirling around in circles with someone on your shoulders while trying to aim straight to take a photo!)
With the children’s parents now banning me from using their little angels as photography guinea pigs I guess it’ll be a while until I get another chance to try this out … I can at least say that I cured at least three of the children of their fear of aeronausiphobia, dinophobia, kinesophobia and pteromerhanophobia …
