Rumble in the jungle
I’ve still got one more post about my visit to Thokoza, South Africa, which I’ll try to run with tomorrow. But today I decided to take a break from my usual posts, and feature photos not taken by me … My friend Mariette Conning recently took a trip to the Kruger National Park – one of the largest game reserves in Africa, and was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time (on more than one occasion) …
Most impressive about these photos is the fact that she didn’t take to the game reserve with a professional camera and lenses, but only with a Nikon D7000 and regular 18-200mm VR lens. And she shot all of these from the safety of a vehicle – mostly through the glass, which isn’t ideal for photography.
So inspired was I by her photos that I even visited our local zoo this week for the first time in three decades. Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos with the same drama and energy …

They called me weed
I have been blogging here since around April 2011 - my little place on the blogosphere to express myself creatively. As a teenager I used to write a diary - in fact, as a 17-year-old living in Belgium, I wrote religiously every day. Fortunately the Internet didn't exist back then because my ramblings as a teenager were ever-so-slightly dark, cynical and depressing. You won't find much of that here. Also, mostly, I try not to get too deep or philosophical in this forum - I'd like my photography to uplift and inspire, and, where I can, I try to bring a bit of humour into my writing too. I've been fortunate enough to travel extensively and have made many friends across the globe. This is my spot to keep in touch with them.
