Over the last few years I’ve tried to do a post for each of the Midgley boys in Madagascar on their birthday. I had already posted today when his mother reminded me that it was Evan, the youngest’s, birthday … Growing up with four older brothers, this just-turned 6-year-old acts way older than his actual age … and so I keep forgetting how old he actually is.
“You’re eleven, right?” I’d ask him. And every time I’d be met with a gaze of derision. “Uncle Rob, you’re so silly. I’m only five,” his answer. Now if I ask he can at least say he’s six …
I used “Facetime” on my iPhone today to call him for his birthday. “Can I sing happy birthday?” I asked. “Nooooooooooo!” was his and his eldest brother’s too-hasty answer in unison.
I think some of Evan’s recent quotes are in order while we’re commemorating his birthday:
The boys get to choose supper on their birthday. Evan’s response to what he would love to eat: “Anything without beans.”
He’s apparently wearing new pants today, which he received for his birthday. So he just sighed a huge sigh and said: “I don’t even feel 6! I just feel like I’m wearing new pants.”
Happy birthday anyway, Evan!
See my blog post from when Evan turned five here, and when he turned four (at my previous blog) here …
Wonderful stuff .. i shall have to try the facetime thing quickly and see if they let me sing ha ha happy birthday!
Well, the party is in full swing but it is definitely missing Crazy Camera Man!
Another quote: He looks at the pack of Cadbury’s Whispers from Jem. “Chuckles!” he says. Then, opening a present from mommy and daddy, “More chuckles!” he says, to the pack of marbles. And we’ll probably soon have him going around saying”I’ve lost my marbles”.
Oh Andy! And where did they get you from? It’s Ouma the marbles comment applies to…. Now you can correct 2 bad grammar sentences!!
I thought it was Andy that corrected MY grammar and spelling!
