Formerly 'Rambling with a cantankerous old mule"
Since last year I’ve been taking part in a “Weekly Photo Challenge” run by WordPress. But it’s beginning to irritate me. And I’m done with it.
More recently I joined a daily photo challenge group on Flickr, with which I am much happier. Its rules are simple, including the fact that photos must be taken after the challenge is posted and each challenge is open for one week – so there is no rush.
The aim of this daily challenge is to encourage its members to practice using their camera every day (although one doesn’t have to post every day if one can’t). From the start it has been a particularly friendly group where members like to share their skills and some aspects of their personal lives through their photography. In order to keep this friendliness, numbers are limited and so there is often a waiting list for membership. There is no competitive element to the group (which is what I really enjoy about it). It’s a forum to help one grow one’s skills, not flaunt the (mediocre) skills one has. And it is open to people of all skill levels; the sharing of techniques is welcomed and appreciated by other members.
Saturday’s topic was “body parts” … Fortunately, while still thinking about what I could photograph, I saw a girl playing with her box of dolls at church and the post was born.
P.S. I had about thirty spam comments on this particular post, so I have disabled them. Bizarre.
