I’ve been trying to figure out how to start this blog. I thought about speaking about how weird it is to find my name so much more “public” on the world-wide web. I thought about writing about the fact that people have indeed been reading my ramblings online in the last year that I have been blogging.
And apparently it’s not only friends and family who have been reading. I discovered one person who linked to my old Madder in Mada blog and had this to say to her readers about me: “Robin has on occasion had me falling off my chair laughing, hopefully his great take on life and cryptic observations will entertain as well as educate.” Cryptic observations? Well, I guess it’s true – many out there, including close friends, haven’t got a clue what I’m on about…
Today I was published in the Pretoria News. I wrote (a very long) article about PEN, the organisation I’ve been helping out in town, and sent through photos. In a moment of weakness the News Editor actually decided to publish it… I’m hoping she has a few more such moments. I actually (if you hadn’t realised by now) quite enjoy taking photos and writing. And I can ramble on and on and on… Oh, and I know of at least two people who actually bought the newspaper today. So, my journalistic career is off to a flying start.
I am hoping to do a picture spread for the ‘News sometime soon on Madagascar – specifically the madder side of the country. If you were a regular reader of that blog, and have any favourites you think I should write about, please do let me know…
I also discovered today that I had been quoted in a newspaper article or two recently. Misquoted, mind you, but quoted none-the-less… (Fame, here I come!)

Congratulations Robin! I wish I could blog daily like you do. I find myself only blogging once or twice a month. But I do enjoy keeping up with your blog.
[Awestruck silence...] Wow…don’t forget us when you’re even more famous!
No, really, well done Rob. As your family we’re very proud to know your first article has been published! Feel free to dedicate your first book to us though
And if you do write about Mad – make sure at the end the people know what a beautiful (if crazy) place it is.
Crypt I see? Nah – too lively. Short but not gravely at all…
CONGRATS!
That’s huge…..so happy for you and proud of you:)
Here’s to many more “publishings”!
Oh, how cool, Rob! We LOVE knowing famous people LOL!
Make it 3 – I also bought the paper yesterday specially to read it! And as a former Pretoria News journalist, I can say it passed my stringent approval criteria! It was a good read … here’s to many more! And keep the family name flying high …
I’m really happy and very proud of you Mr Robin. Good luck on your way to fame.
that’s great!
Congratulations! May you have continued success. BTW, I enjoy reading your blog, and even though we’ve never met (except through the blogosphere) when you are touted as a famous writer/photographer, I’ll say I knew you when. . .
Wonderful! How refreshing to find something uplifting in the paper!
Oh very cool.. congrats to you. You so deserve it.
