Weekly Photo Challenge: Broken
I lived at “Patches” in the east of Pretoria for several years and loved the fact that both Keith and Carole (the owners of the property) were masters at collecting anything they thought could one day be of use for something… It was an amazing peace-filled place, but with quite a few things badly in need of repair. I was especially challenged by the shower that often didn’t work. I would be in the middle of a shower, with shampoo in the hair (I still had hair back then) when the water would dry up to a drip…
Often it was simply because someone had started drawing a bath in the main house and with a fish-wife-like scream I could get my water restored. But often it was because they had forgotten to turn on the borehole to fill up the water tank. That was a more grave situation and I’d have to use the water from my kettle mixed with some from the fridge just to get the shampoo off my head and out of my eyes. I would emerge from the house most grumpy and they would just chuckle knowingly.
Last month I went to take photos at Patches Playschool, their daughter’s preschool which is on the same property. While there I saw this amazing old chair. Something tells me it is probably a home for mice now and is beyond repair.
But then again, what with Carole being an ingenious restorer of all things old with the help of her husband, I think there may be hope yet.

I think this one might be past fixing! Great capture.
So broken but so many pretty colours. Best wishes to Carole for any restoration on this one and look forward to seeing the “after” shot!
